THE CHRISTIAN JOURNEY 1
CHAPTER ONE
THE SINNER
I
|
n the very beginning of the world
there was no such thing as sin in existence. Sin is anything that we do that does
not please God. The bible tells us from Gen 1 and 2, that everything God
created was good and pure but in chapter 3, the snake which was the most
cunning of all living creatures created by God, tricked Adam and Eve into
eating the fruit which God had commanded of them not to eat. From that day sin
came into the world. From generation to generations, mankind continued to sin
and displeased its creator; God.
Who is a sinner?

Sinner does just commit sin; sinners have sin
itself dwelling in them. Rom 7:15-17 says “I do not understand what I do; for I don’t do
what I would like to do, but instead I do what I hate. Since what I don’t want
to do is what I do, this means that I agree that the law is right. So I am
really the one who does it; rather it is the sin that lives in me”.so we see that sinners are not actually the ones
in control but they are actually controlled by sin to commit evil.
In the bible a sinner is described
as a slave, “we know that the law is spiritual, but I am a mortal sold as a
slave to sin”. The master and founder of sin is the devil, so all sinners are
slaves of the devil. For whom ever we present ourselves loyal to we make
ourselves slave to that person (Rom 6:16). So those who obey the devil and do
wrong are slaves to him. These are the people who are influenced by the devil
to do all sort of evil, they are sinners. The devil puts them in a very big and
deadly snare, spiritually blinding them from seeing what is actually going on,
so they do not know that they are in any slavery or bondage of any kind. This
is the work of the devil.
The sinner in this situation is
completely powerless and weak; he cannot stand against the will of his master
the devil for he is just but a slave and nothing more. But as we all know it can only take a greater
authority to free a slave from his master’s authority. There is no greater
authority in this world than the authority of Christ Jesus. At this point all
the sinner needs is Jesus to free him from the bondage of the devil. Without
the help of Christ, the sinner is doomed for life;’ not only on Earth but also
in hell for eternity.
It is very common to see people blame God for their sins; they say that God tempts them too much, beyond their ability. That is not true because God loves us so much so that, he will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to overcome. The bible says “but we are tempted, when we are drawn away and tempted by our own evil desires. Then our evil desires conceive and give birth to sin; sin when it is fully grown gives birth to death.”(James 1:14-15). Here we see that it is our own very desire that tempt us and not God. These desires living in us are sin itself. When we sin for so long sin brings forth death upon us for it is written, “The wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 6:23).
Anyone who cheats, steals, lies, gossips, anyone who is stubborn, lazy, wicked, bad tempered, unjust, anyone who is guilty of any crime is a sinner and should not feel condemn for there is still a chance to turn to the creator and be set free from sin. Start making useful decisions now, for it is appointed onto a man to live once and after that judgment.
